The Civil Aviation Department (CAD) received a visit from Air Safety Support International (ASSI) at the end of January. The team of three’s main purpose was to conduct a planned assessment of CAD in order to satisfy themselves, the UK Government and the Governor that the aviation industry in the Falkland Islands is being regulated in the appropriate manner in accordance with the AN(OT)O.

The visit went very well and the ASSI team looked at all of our designated functions. Based on feedback throughout the week and the remarks made during the formal verbal out-brief with the Governor we have every reason to expect a very positive report which should be published mid-March.

The CAD recognise these assessment visits as key elements of the overall global aviation safety system and we always welcome them and see them as an opportunity to learn and further improve our safety oversight programme.
