This week, the Falkland Islands Patagonian toothfish fishery was assessed against the standards of the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) sustainability standards. The MSC certification is a crucial tool to ensure the sustainability of the fishery and to allow the product to be sold in North American and European markets. The Directorate of Natural Resources – Fisheries provided the best available science, input and advice to inform the process, and will continue to assist in the completion of the assessment. The assessors will now score the fishery and prepare a reassessment report for public comment by June 2018.

The Loligo season finished on the 5th October. The total catch of Loligo was 24,101 t.

The next FFLG meeting will be held in the Fisheries Department meeting room on Wednesday, 13th December 2017 at 14:00.
