Background

I completed my BSc in Marine Biology at UABCS in Mexico, where I acquired a great interest for cephalopods. I then completed a Masters in Science in Use, Management and Conservation of Natural Resources at CIBNOR, where I examined the early life stage and spawning areas of the jumbo squid Dosidicus gigas along the west coast of the Baja California Peninsula. After my Masters, I took a position as technical officer at CIBNOR in collaboration with Stanford University, where I participated in several projects on D. gigas, such as spawning areas, age and growth, reproductive biology, movement patterns and use of habitat. During my PhD at IMAS-UTAS in Australia, I used the range shifting common Sydney octopus, Octopus tetricus, as a model species to examine how life history characteristics and population dynamics associate with the capacity of marine species to change distribution and establish in new areas due to oceanic warming. As an Adjunct Researcher at UTAS, I carried out a qualitative vulnerability assessment of the impacts of climate change on key Peruvian fishery species. Currently, I am a working as a Stock Assessment Scientist at the Falkland Islands Fisheries Department.

Reasearch interests

Stock assessment, fisheries management, fisheries biology, impacts of environmental variability and climate change on marine species, adaptation to climate change, life history and population dynamics, reproductive biology, population genetics, invasion ecology, molecular ecology.
