"An archivist is part of the glue that holds the community together"
(David Cameron (Jane Cameron's brother) 2010).

Welcome to the Jane Cameron National archives website where we hope you find all the information you need about archives in the Falkland Islands.

Jane Cameron was born in the Falkland Islands in 1950 and is the Granddaughter of a Falklands Colonial Secretary/Governor. She returned to the Islands in 1989 after living in the United Kingdom where she studied, to take up the previously non-existent post of Government Archivist. Jane's brother, David Cameron, said that Jane's work started with a mountain of cardboard boxes stored in Government House and the Secretariat filled with dusty historic documents. Over the next 20 years Jane became well known for her dedication to preserving the Islands history in all of its forms including the preservation of buildings.

Jane sadly passed away in 2011 and in memory of her work and dedication to the history of the Falkland Islands; the archives were changed to a National Archives and re-named the Jane Cameron National Archives in her memory. Since then the National Archivist, Tansy Bishop has continued to expand, preserve and improve the accessibility of records held in order that maximum use can be made of them.
